April 28, 2007

Work on the site, not including the work of the surveyors, started on Tuesday, April 24th.

A row of "Jersey barriers" was placed on the East side of 2nd Avenue on the west side of what was the parking lane. Workers immediately started to clear any and all obstructions on the sidewalk - e.g. signage, trees, and parking meters. The USPS also came and removed their pick-up boxes in the construction zone.

The first indication, a notice on a parking meter, that actual construction is about to begin.

Spray painted marking on the sidewalk to mark the future location of access ways for the NYC Fire Department.

No Parking signs waiting for the first day of construction.

April 14, 2007 - The First Posting

This first group of images is what I call the "reference set." The purpose here is to document the environment in and around the construction area before the ground was broken. I tried to shoot the images in a way that would make it easy to later compare how things looked before, and after.
