94th, NW corner - looking north
Excavation work has now begun, between 94th and 95th on the west side of the avenue, under what was the old sidewalk -- i.e the area right next to the buildings. These signs were put up in the past week.

95th, in the center of 2nd Avenue - looking south
Here you see the temporary walkway for pedestrians - in the middle of 2nd Avenue. Access to Terrace Cleaners is now provided via a temporary walkway that has been created about a 1/3rd of the way down on the right.

And here you see the walking path that leads to the front door of Terrace Cleaners.

94th, near the NW corner - looking north
Here you see a narrow path to the HILTI shop (which is empty) and the front door of a walk up apartment building.

and the same path

95th, NW corner - looking south
Here you see another access path that only leads to the laundry and a walk up apartment building.

94th, near NW corner - looking N
If you look carefully you can see the words "slurry wall" on the jersey barrier in this image. The slurry wall, I believe, is the outer edge of The Launch Box - so I would assume that everything (i.e. utilities, sewer lines, etc.) in this image has to be moved to the left of this marking.

btw. 93rd and 94th, west side - looking east
Work crews have now started to fill in the trenches and holes that they dug on the west side of 2nd Avenue.

92nd, near the SW corner - looking NE
In this image the hole has been filled in and crews are packing down the fill material.

btw. 93rd and 94th, west side - looking north

92nd, near the NW corner - looking SE
But some holes are still open as crews from ConEd, Verizon and the DEP continue their work relocating utility lines.

94th, SW corner - looking North
On the west side of 2nd Avenue, on 92nd, 93rd, and 94th, the roadway has been reduced to one narrow lane, so that crews can excavate as much as possible, without closing the street. In this picture you see the temporary crosswalk at 94th and 2nd.

94th, near the SW corner - looking south
(It's unclear why there are balloons next to the "sidewalk closed" sign...)

92nd Street, south crosswalk - looking north
(left click on the image for the full size)

This is a first attempt at creating a panoramic view of the construction site using a technique called "image stitching." With this image, which is actually 6 images "stitched" together, you have about a 180 degree view, from west to north to east.

I'll work on this technique a bit and see if I can create a few more, without having people and cars caught in the seams.

94th Street, SW corner - looking south
Relocation of utility lines continues

btw. 94th and 95th streets, west side - looking east
ConEd electric lines

btw. 93rd and 94th streets, west side - looking east
As utility lines are relocated they are covered with what appears to be a fine mixture of gravel.

Some lines are re-buried inside new plastic conduits and others are threaded through cement duct work (shown in this image.)

94th Street, N crosswalk - looking north

Down about 20 feet, I guess
Note the cross beams to support the outside walls.

An old, but active, water main suspended in mid-air. The yellow line, I guess, is a gas line.

Another water main.
