btw. 91st & 92nd, E side of 2nd avenue - looking N
The work area was shifted to the east side of 2nd avenue earlier this week, on Monday, February 25th.

The rigs (2 shown) are drilling core samples of the bedrock below the surface.

93rd and 2nd Avenue - looking N
The pavement has been removed in the center of 2nd avenue and workers are excavating so that they can begin the process to remove the 48" sewer main in the middle of the street.

95th & 2nd avenue - looking S
The right hand traffic lane normally would be open during the rush hour, allowing 4 lanes of traffic, but today (at 7.30 AM) Verizon had some work that they needed to do.

95th & 2nd Avenue
The sidewalk on the west side of the avenue has been restored -- at a reduced width of 7 feet. Note that access to the building cellars was not restored when the new sidewalk was layed down. One would hope that cellar access will be restored once the sidewalk is returned to it's normal width.

February 28, 2008

Work on 2nd Avenue, at the Launch Box site, was shifted to the east side of the avenue on Monday, February 25th. A lot is happening right now and I'll will post a new set of pictures by Sunday evening March 2nd.

I also noticed today that the food market Zeytinia, at 1824 2nd Avenue has now closed. I'll post a picture of the store in the "Vacant Stores in the Area" section on Sunday.

February 10, 2008

btw. 94th & 95th, west side - looking S
One of many new pieces of sidewalk
on the west side of 2nd Avenue.

at the same location - looking N
The sign on the door says that workers will start constructing the new sidewalk, at this location, on Saturday 02/09.

A lot of utility work remains to be completed in the intersections between 92nd and 95th - but work is clearly progressing.

92nd, NW corner - W side
The sidewalk directly in front of the Key Food store was restored about ten days ago.

This odd looking piece of concrete (with the board across it) was poured last week. First workers poured concrete around the outside of a steel mold - and then a few days later workers removed the mold and poured concrete on the inside. (i.e the darker concrete.) I have no idea, at the moment, what this is for.

Update - 03/02/2007
I now believe that these are "secant pile walls" -- which will form the outside of the Launch Box at this location.

Another view of the same piece of concrete.

btw. 93rd & 94th, west side of the avenue
Vector control (i.e. a rat trap.)
(To be honest, I've seen very view rats in and
around the work site.)

February 10, 2008 - B&W

Here's a selection of black and white images.

A Davey Kent DK50RA crawler rotary drill.

A rig for drilling test bores.

Various pieces of pipe (used on the drilling rig.)

I have no idea what this is for, but I think it's used on one of the drilling rigs.

More new sidewalk.

Various pipe fittings.

A new man hole and it's cover.

Lots of fencing!
